The Pokémon Trading Card Game has become a go-to hobby for collectors across the world since the cards were first printed in 1999. Major auctions will now sell valuable Pokémon cards, like a base set Charizard, for as much as $954,800. These jaw-dropping numbers have been enough to inspire some fans to go digging through their old childhood collections in the hopes of striking cardboard gold.

However, just because someone has a rare or old card doesn't guarantee it'll be worth boatloads of money. The price of a card will vary on several factors like how many copies are in circulation and the specific story behind a particular collectible. Another major factor in determining price is the overall condition of any given card. If a collector wishes to evaluate how well their card has been preserved and the quality of the print, a fan can get a card graded by a reputable third-party authentication grading authority like PSA.

This list rounds up the top ten most valuable Pokémon cards sold as of summer 2026, organized from lowest to highest sale price. You can read on to learn a bit more about each card, how much it sold for, and what made it so valuable.

10. Snap Pikachu

This card might occupy the lowest spot on the list but it takes the prize for being one of the cutest cards to come with a premium price tag. As its name suggests, The Snap Pikachu is a promotional card tied to the Nintendo 64 game where players take photos of characters called Pokémon Snap.

The card art depicts a close-up image of a Pikachu rendered in the game. The retro 3D graphics make this particular card a unique portrayal of the franchise mascot (and my personal favorite on this list). It sold privately in 2023 but the YouTuber Nidouken documented the search and sale of the card. The content creator paid $270,000 for the card at the time.

9. 2004 Pokémon World Championships Tropical Wind, Semi-Finalist

In a world of Charizard and Pikachu, the Tropical Wind trainer card features two unique Pokémon on this list: Pysduck and Torchic. As indicated by the label on the art, this card was given out as part of the 2004 World Championship. This particular copy, which received a grading of PSA 10, was sold for $300,000 in 2025.

8. Commissioned Presentation Blastoise Galaxy Star Hologram

If you happen to be a lover of the font Comic Sans, look no further than this special Blastoise card. This collectible, like many other on this list, has several unique features. To start, it uses the special font style which was changed in later prints. It also does not have a back since it was created as a sample. Wizards of the Coast printed two copies of this card in order to get approval from Nintendo to start printing and distributing cards in English. It has a special history and sold in 2021 for a hefty price of $360,000.

7. Bronze Trophy Pikachu No. 3, 1st Tournament

We're not even halfway through but be prepared for lots of Pikachu of this list. This Bronze Trophy Pikachu was offered as the third place prize for the 1997 Japanese Lizardon Mega Battle Pokemon tournament. This adorable card depicts an especially round Pikachu holding a bronze cup on a podium with a holographic foil. According to PSA's census reporting at the time, only eight copies of the card have been certified and only one received a grade higher than this particular PSA 8. These factors led it to sell for $378,200 in 2025.

6. Silver Trophy Pikachu No. 2, 2nd Tournament

Pikachu just can't stop winning. The Silver Trophy Pikachu trainer card was offered as the second place prize for the Japanese Lizardon Mega Battle Pokémon tournaments. Similar to the Bronze Trophy Pikachu, this card shows Pikachu on the podium with a silver cup. According to the auction sellers, this card is incredibly rare and there are only 14 copies of this card in existence. The card sold for $444,000 in 2023.

5. Charizard Topsun Blue Back

One look at this card and its easy to see why it's such a sought out collector's item. The borderless card features a water color art-style of the ever-popular Charizard. That, paired with its striking red background and blue back, make it one of the most visually distinct cards on this list.

The reason this card looks so different from others is that it technically isn't a part of The Pokémon Trading Card game. It is a Topsun card, which were originally sold and bundled with packs of gum. The Topsun cards are among the earliest Pokémon cards people could collect. This unique card and the fact it was preserved in mint condition, led it to sell at auction for $481,200.

4. Prerelease Raichu

Pikachu might be the mascot of the Pokémon franchise but that doesn't mean its big evolution, Raichu, needs to miss out on all the fun. The prerelease Raichu is the next card occupy the list of most valuable Pokémon cards ever sold.

When the team at Wizards of the Coast helped bring the English-language localization of The Pokémon Trading Card Game to North America, the company held early battle tests for fans and awarded participants with special promo cards. One of such cards included this Raichu card. This card is distinguishable by the clearly printed label "PRELEASE" on the bottom right-hand corner of the art. This chonky Raichu sold for $550,000, per the auction website.

3. Japanese Charizard with No Rarity Symbol

If you thought we'd be done with Charizard, you'd be wrong. The next entry on the list also features the popular fire-type Pokémon. This particular card is notable for lacking a rarity symbol, indicating it is among the earliest cards ever printed. Only ten cards like this have ever received a 10 grading, per the PSA's census reporting from the time. This card was sold at auction for $641,721 in the fall of 2025.

2. First Edition Base Set Charizard

When people think of valuable Pokémon cards, usually the "shadowless" base set holographic cards come to mind. Although these cards can vary in value and aren't a surefire goldmine, there have been specific Charizard cards that have sold for mind-boggling amounts of money.

In 2021, the YouTuber Logan Paul live-streamed opening a box of the 1st Edition Base Set. During the stream, he opened a base set holographic Charizard. He and his team later certified the card. It was in pristine condition and received a PSA 10 grade. This, and its unique provenance on the stream, led it to sell for at auction for $954,800.

1. Illustrator Pikachu

The most a single Pokémon card has ever sold for is the 1998 Illustator Pikachu collector card for roughly $5.275 million. This special card, which depicts an illustration featuring Pikachu holding a brush, was a prize for a series of art competitions hosted by the Japanese manga magazine CoroCoro Comic.

The Illustrator Pikachu was always a pricey card due to its rarity. However, this particular card spiked in value when the YouTuber Logan Paul bought one with a PSA 10 grade and encased it in a diamond chain. The content creator later sold both the card and the chain for $16.492 million. We don't actually have the precise value of the card alone, however, Guinness World Records estimated it to be $5.275 million at the time.
