New TCG Movie, Expansion, and Card Type: Every Announcement at Pokémon World Championships 2026
A new TCG movie, card types, and the location for next year's event! Here's everything announced at the 2026 Pokémon World Championships!
Another Pokémon World Championships has come and gone. This year, The Pokémon Company International celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise with a dual event that brought together both the top competitors from across the globe and fans, with a new companion event featuring panels and workshops called PokémonXP.".
At the end of the festivities, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company Tsunekazu Ishihara took to the Worlds stage in the Chase Center in San Francisco, California and shared news related to both the video games and the Pokémon Trading Card Game. If you weren’t able to attend the event in-person or catch the livestream, this post will go over all the TCG-related news. It wasn’t exactly the biggest lineup of announcements but there were a couple treats in there for fans of the TCG.
Where Will Pokémon World Championships 2027 Be?

Fans tuning into the livestream or watching in person were among the first to learn the location for the Pokémon World Championships next year. A short teaser trailer shown during Championship Sunday revealed the 2027 Pokémon World Championships will be hosted in the Southeast Asian island country of Singapore. We don’t have many details beyond that but The Pokémon Company International confirmed the event would take place from August 13 to August 15.
Pokémon: Wild Card Movie Coming in 2027
In what was maybe the most surprising announcement of the night, a trailer from The Pokémon Company revealed a new movie inspired by The Pokémon Trading Card game. It’s called Pokémon: Wild Card and it is set to be released sometime in 2027. Once again, the details are scant on this project. However, we know that the movie centers on a Pokémon TCG player and the Pikachu knock-off, Mimikyu.
Mega Lucario Z ex and Pokémon ex Star Series TCG Cards
Arguably the biggest news to come from the event for fans of the Pokémon Trading Card game was the reveal of the ex Star series. There is no additional information on how these new cards might work mechanically but players can see the trailer below.
In the same trailer, players also got a look at the concept for an upcoming expansion. This year, competitors in Pokémon Champions used Mega Pokémon to battle. The TCG continues to develop this as a battle theme by focusing on Mega Pokémon like Mega Darkrai, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Greninja, and Mega Zygarde. We don’t have a confirmed name for this expansion yet but the roughly minute-and-a-half-long trailer showed cards with comic-book like art and bold text to make attacks really pop.
