The 2026 Pokémon World Championships are taking place this week in San Francisco California. This event, which brings together top competitors from across the world for both the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and video games like Pokémon Champions, is scheduled to run from August 28 to August 30.
As far as all things Pokémon go, it is the biggest event for the franchise each year. This time around there are two main events: the championship itself and PokémonXP, a con with panels, workshops, and vendors that attendees can check out. Additionally, The Pokémon Company will also share news related to upcoming franchise products and releases as part of the larger celebration.
The Pokémon Company and fans are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pokémon this year. The world championships this year will be a big affair so it can be a bit overwhelming to keep track of everything happening both at the in-person event itself and for people streaming it from home. This post will break down everything you need to know if you are a fan of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, including special products tied to the event and the competition itself.
2026 Pokémon Worlds Merch
Each year, The Pokémon Company releases a set of exclusive merch tied to the event. This year, the overall concept is inspired by a dual theme with a blue and red color scheme. (Represented by a space-themed Pikachu with the blue merch and another king-themed Pikachu with the red merch.) While the plushies are as adorable as ever, there is also some merch tied to the Pokémon Trading Card Game as well.
The Pokémon Company has not announced any exclusive card or booster pack drops. However, TCG fans who want special merch do have the option to buy various accessories. Here is all the exclusive merch for the Pokémon Trading Card game announced for worlds 2026:

2026 Worlds Celebration Tournament at a Local Play! Pokémon Store and Get a Pikachu Promo
Those who can’t travel to San Francisco can still get in on a bit of fun and collect a special promo card. From August 21 to August 30, players can go to a Play! Pokémon Store and participate in a local 2026 Worlds Celebration Tournament. Those who participate have the chance to get a Pikachu promo card Pikachu with a San Francisco-inspired background.
Additionally, there are special prizes like a Worlds Celebration themed deck box and card sleeves for those who win their age bracket in a local tournament.
If you want to try and check one out for yourself, here is where to find a local event. Just note, there is limited stock so it’s not a guarantee you’ll get the regular promo card if you participate.
2026 Pokémon Worlds Trading Card Game Schedule
Luckily for interested viewers, watching the competitions for the Pokémon Trading Card Game is relatively straightforward. The TCG gets a dedicated stream hosted on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. Everything is already scheduled, so you can check the “Live” tab on YouTube if you want to see when everything is happening.
If you don’t want to sort through the channel, here is when you can watch the TCG stream:
- TCG Day 1 will stream on August 28 starting at 8:30 a.m. PDT/11:30 a.m. EDT
- TCG Day 2 will stream on August 29 starting at 8:30 a.m. PDT/11:30 a.m. EDT
- Championship Sunday for all games will stream on August 30 at 8:30 a.m. PDT/11:30 a.m. EDT
2026 Pokémon Worlds Trading Card Game News
The Pokémon Company will also typically use the event to announce news tied to upcoming Pokémon products and games. We already have a taste of what's to come for TCG players with the upcoming Pokémon Celebrations TCG expansion. However, there will likely be a lot of big news this year given the 30th anniversary.
There isn’t a dedicated stream for news announcements on the official YouTube channel. However, in previous years, the event planners shared upcoming news as part of the closing ceremonies. So if you want to try and catch any additional news, your best bet is to tune into the closing ceremonies livestream.
